It all began in Chianti…
We have a rule when we travel - at least one meal has to be made and shared with a local. Because the best stories don't come from guidebooks. They come from kitchens.
Over the years, we've been so lucky to be welcomed into the kitchens of some amazing homes. We've kneaded dough to make brioche in Paris, baked guava shortbread from a recipe passed down by a beloved grandmother in Puerto Rico and learned how to make a crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside schnitzel in Vienna. Every class, every table, brought something beautiful. But oh Chianti… Chianti was somehow different.
It was at a farmhouse tucked behind a villa that looked like something straight out of movies. We picked lavender for ice cream straight from the bushes by the side of the house and pulled plums off the tree in the orchard, still warm from the sun. Then we set the table with wild greenery, flowers from the gardens and grabbed mismatched plates in every color.
The sun slipped behind the hills and distant lights began to twinkle like stars scattered across the valley as we sat there. Eating slowly. Talking. Laughing. Trading funny stories and life lessons too. It was the kind of night that you knew you would treasure always.
I remember thinking: this is it. Not perfection. Just presence. A table set with care, and gracious hospitality. Linens that felt lived-in. Food that tasted like love personified with people who didn’t want the evening to end.
That evening is why Tavola Gatherings exists.
Just like many of the recipes, this art form of block printing is passed down over generations of artisans. Our linens are meant to make even an ordinary Tuesday night feel special, and we hope to inspire you to romanticize the everyday moments shared by the table.
Because the table isn't just where we eat. It's where we gather. Where we linger. Where we remember what it feels like to be present with the people we love.
Here's to creating the tables we gather around - and the nights we can't forget.
