Chinese Porcelain Butterfly Plates | Mille Papillons
In Chinese decorative tradition, butterflies are never just butterflies.
They represent joy, longevity, and the freedom of the soul — which explains why the butterfly motif has appeared on Chinese porcelain for centuries and shows no signs of losing its appeal. These two plates carry the tradition in very different voices. Both are worth owning. Choose yours.
Sold individually.
8" Mille Papillons — The classic hundred butterflies composition. A central medallion of large, vividly painted butterflies in green, yellow, brown, and blue sits within concentric iron-red rings, surrounded by a dense border of butterflies and cloud-form cartouches carrying floral sprigs. Gilt rim. Unmarked. Three small chips on rim, noted.
9" All-Over Butterfly — Just butterflies in a cool-toned palette of ocean blue, yellow, brown, black, and green that reads almost like a textile. Red seal mark on base. Gilt rim. No chips or cracks.
Tucked inside every set, a little something for first time Tavola customers — a hand-finished vintage passport notebook. Note the piece, the moment, the person you gave it to. One day these pieces will sit in someone else's hands — and they'll know it came from yours.
