Antique Frie Onnaing French Majolica Pitcher

$160.00
Sold Out

Bold above, intricate below — and a century between then and now.

The upper register commands attention first: a deep cobalt blue ground alive with large relief-molded shell-form motifs in pink and cream, swirling foliate waves, and two small amber-glazed snails caught mid-crawl. Then the eye drops — a full shift in mood — to deep olive and khaki basketweave lattice with alternating diamond panels carrying raised floral sprigs, all framed by a braided rope border on the square angular handle.

La Faïencerie d'Onnaing in northern France was one of the most celebrated majolica factories of the 19th and early 20th centuries, employing 500 workers at its peak before WWI devastated production. Flip it over and the carmine red interior glaze tells you everything: that's the Onnaing signature, as distinctive as the mark itself.

Tiny chip to the base, not noticeable. For display only, as with all antique majolica.

Tucked inside every set, a little something for first time Tavola customers — a hand-finished vintage passport notebook. Note the piece, the moment, the person you gave it to. One day these pieces will sit in someone else's hands — and they'll know it came from yours.
