Every piece in the Friendly Village pattern tells its own small story.
Johnson Brothers began producing Friendly Village in 1953 and kept it in continuous English production for fifty years — a multicolor transferware pattern built around idyllic scenes of rural American life, each piece depicting a different vignette.
The 10" dinner plate carries "The School House" — a snow-covered New England village with a red schoolhouse, bare winter trees, and distant church steeple, framed by a rich border of maple leaves and florals in brown, green, and rust tones.
The 8.5" bowl carries "Stonewall" — a warmer-season rural landscape with mature trees, a stone wall, and a distant farmhouse, framed in the same signature leaf and floral border.
The Village Green serving pieces bring spring into the mix — a blossoming pink cherry tree, white church steeple, and village buildings along a country road, available as an oval platter and matching bowl. All pieces share the same signature maple leaf and floral border.
Sold individually, except the Village Green serving set, sold together. Great vintage condition.
