Amber Controlled Bubble Lidded Vessel with Rooster Finial

$170.00

There are pieces that you bring home because you simply cannot leave them behind.

Attributed to Erickson Glass of Bremen, Ohio — one of America's most celebrated mid-century art glass studios — this amber lidded vessel is a masterwork of the controlled bubble technique Erickson was renowned for. Hundreds of tiny suspended bubbles catch the light from inside the glass, giving it an almost luminous, honeyed depth that photographs cannot fully capture. A hand-applied glass rope encircles the shoulder with a softness and fluidity that only true hand-blown craft produces.

Reproductions of this form exist, but the quality difference is unmistakable up close. The rooster finial here is refined and expressive — each curve deliberate, the crest and wing rendered with a sculptural elegance that mass production simply cannot replicate. The bubbles are soft, organic and elegant.

It stands 11 inches tall with a 4.5 inch girth at its widest point, and commands attention from a shelf, a mantle, or a sideboard. There is a barely perceptible chip at the base of the lid — visible only under close inspection and in no way diminishing the presence of this piece.

Acquired from a 70-year veteran antique purveyor who hand selected every piece in his home and made the Erickson attribution. A rare find looking for it’s new steward.

Tucked inside every set, a little something for first time Tavola customers — a hand-finished vintage passport notebook. Note the piece, the moment, the person you gave it to. One day these pieces will sit in someone else's hands — and they'll know it came from yours.
