This 11" x 5" statement bowl was handmade and hand-painted at Rye Pottery in Rye, Sussex — one of England's most storied studio potteries, producing hand-painted earthenware since the 1790s and held in collections at the V&A and the British Museum. The maritime pattern is discontinued, making this a true find for collectors.
The decoration is exceptional — a central oval medallion featuring a tall-masted sailing ship under full sail, surrounded by seabirds, with smaller sailing ships and a lighthouse repeating around the interior rim. The exterior carries the same nautical scene in sweeping cobalt brushwork. Signed by decorator in the center medallion.
